Leap Year Snow Day

This year Leap Day was pretty unique in Japan.  This is my second year here and in Illinois it was common to have at least a couple snow days each year.  I was used to inches and inches of snow drifting across roads and fields.  So far in Japan, all I'd experienced were flurries and some slick roads in the early morning.  This was the scene on my way to work on the 29th.  Frankly, I was hoping that school would be cancelled that morning so I could sleep in, but no such luck.
During the day, it continued to snow.  The Base Commander decided to cancel school effective at noon. After dismissing the students and making sure that all of them had a way to get home, I ended up leaving around 2, which is normal dismissal time.  It was probably the closest I'll ever get to a snow day here.  When I got home, this was the scene.  Frankly, I didn't think it was too serious, but the locals FREAKED out about the snow.  Granted, it WAS slick, but easy to navigate with care.
I can't believe that school was cancelled for this little amount of snow.  But, it was a nice, relaxing afternoon.
